How does non renewable energy ( burning of coal, oil digging... ) effect the environment / animals?

Hey so im doing a project for school thats like 20 percent of my class. and we have to make a Public speach anouncment about non renewable energy. i need to no how the use of burning fossil fuels and digging for oil effects the animals living in the environment mostly. mostly focuused on jungle cats, wolves, and sea creatures. thankss. oh and which animals are effected. noo so basicly i need to no which animals are effected by the use of non renewable energy and how. links for proof and stuff would be really appreciated pleaseee

Like Narayana said, burning fossil fuels causes pollution. Burning oil releases carbon dioxide, which contributes to global warming; the change in temperature caused by global warming can cause changes in local weather cycles, and interrupt photosynthesis in plants as it ocurrs naturally; it also displaces species that cannot adapt to their new conditions. Burning coal releases pollutants like sulfur dioxide and mercury. From coal-burning power plants, mercury can enter the atmosphere and get into rain, and then get into the ocean and enter the bodies of the animals living there; that's how mercury gets into tuna. Natural gas, made mostly of methane, is toxic to living beings in general. Extracting non-renewable fossil fuels can be damaging; coal is the most damaging, since it's often extracted using mountain-top removal, which completely removes the tops of mountains so that they can be mined, causing habitat destruction; oil extraction isn't as damaging in comparison, since it's just drilling into the ground, but the roads that are built to provide access to the drilling site can cause damage; in parts of Alaska where oil is drilled, this can be a problem because caribou won't cross the access roads.

By burning Coal, Oil lot of air pollution (co2 from coal, co from Oil)

For getting Crude Oil, we must destroy the habitat of many sea animals as the refineries are bust in the seas. Burning of fossil fuels causes the Greenhouse Affect and the Acid Rain which definitely affect the habitats of the birds and the animals.

No way. im kinda doing something like that project of yours. i know that mining for fossil fuels, like strip mining, can destroy habitats. When fossil fuels are burned they contribute to smog and acid rain... umm? and the fossil fuels can wash into the streams and lakes through runoff. that can really affect aquatic organisms... and just look at the news about the HUGE oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. hope that helps.
